The cranium circle
Draw a freehand circle, no compass. It doesn't need to be perfect, but it does need to be light, because you'll erase it later. This circle is the top of the skull, not the whole head.

The front view is the foundation: master symmetry and proportion here and profile and three-quarter views get easy. You build it on guides and erase them only at the end.
